New Years Eve Flood, 20051068 viewsKen and Gary bringing out a generator. The Public Works garage on Dinsmore Drive is high and dry, but Rohner Creek backs up into town and crawls out of its banks here when the river gets too high.
Keeping an Eye on the Eel1435 viewsA popular spot when the river is at full crest! We're at the Overlook on Riverwalk Drive, near River Lodge, on New Year's Eve 2005. This is the best spot to watch the river as it runs toward the sea. It flows faster than a man can run and sweeps much debris and even whole trees along with it. See this picture taken in 2002, same place, same reason, even the same day!
Storm is Over!1235 viewsWhat a way to finish up a year! The last two weeks of December brought a couple of back-to-back storms and lots of rain. Many small creeks overran their banks and there were a few bank slipouts. The storm drain system was overwhelmed at times and some streets flooded.
Fernbridge During High Water 11346 viewsVisitors to the area often wonder why there are 20-foot-high levees along the river banks. The Eel can go from shin deep to 25 feet high in a matter of days.

Fernbridge During High Water 21874 viewsConstructed in 1911, Fernbridge was an engineering marvel of its day, the world's longest concrete arch span ever built to that date (and one of only two still in use in the world). It is also the only bridge on the Eel that has withstood everything that the river has been able to throw against it.
