Essence of Rhododendron1055 viewsRhododendrons are spectacular in bloom but not terribly impressive the rest of the year. Honey produced from these plants has a slightly hallucinogenic and laxative effect. From the Greek rhodos, "rose", and dendron, "tree" and with over a thousand species. There are over 28,000 cultivars of Rhododendron in the International Rhododendron Registry held by the Royal Horticultural Society. This one is at Rohner Park at the Firemans Pavilion. Check out the "landing lights", those series of dots and streaks on the right side of each flower to help guide the insects into the best position for pollination. Info from Wikipedia.
